Miguel DelgadoAVP & Chief Risk Officer, Carnegie Mellon University
Miguel is responsible for developing and implementing risk management tools and practices across the university. He also leads a cross-functional team to provide critical risk intelligence to university leadership, thereby informing strategic decision-making. Prior to his current role at Carnegie Mellon, Miguel held leadership positions at the University of Arizona's Risk Management Services Department for seven and half years, with the last three and half years as Chief Risk Officer. In this capacity, he oversaw the university's risk management programs, encompassing health and safety, regulatory compliance and insurance, and collaborated across the institution to identify and implement risk mitigation strategies. His prior experience includes safety and risk-related roles at the University of New Mexico and Farmers Insurance, where he focused on minimizing institutional liabilities. Miguel's influence extends to the national level. In 2021, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the University Risk Management & Insurance Association (URMIA), a leading organization dedicated to advancing risk management in higher education. In 2024, he was selected by his peers as President-Elect, a position he currently holds. URMIA serves over 875 institutional members by providing community, education and resources to support the profession. In addition to an MBA in Organizational Management and a bachelor's degree, he has earned several professional designations, including Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Risk Manager (CRM), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Associate in Risk Management for Public Entities (ARM-P) and Associate in General Insurance (AINS). |
