Bronté Burleigh-Jones

Chief Financial Officer, Vice President and Treasurer, American University

Bronté Burleigh-Jones is the Chief Financial Officer, Vice President, and Treasurer at American University, where she provides strategic financial and administrative leadership to advance the university's academic mission. In a full-circle moment, she returned to serve as CFO at her alma mater, where she earned both her bachelor's degree and MBA in finance.

With more than 30 years of experience in higher education finance and facilities management, Dr. Burleigh-Jones previously served as Vice President for Finance and Administration at Dickinson College, Treasurer of St. John's College, and Vice President for Administration and Finance and Dean of Enrollment Management at Huston-Tillotson University. Earlier in her career, she held leadership roles with the Texas State Auditor's Office and the national headquarters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

A nationally recognized voice on accreditation, finance and budgeting, enterprise risk management, communication, leadership, and diversity, Dr. Burleigh-Jones is a frequent presenter at NACUBO, ACE, and AGB conferences and a regular contributor to NACUBO Business Officer magazine. She is also a past recipient of NACUBO's Professional Development Award for her extensive service to the association's programs and publications.

Her governance and board service includes roles as former board chair and treasurer and current Director Emerita of the Higher Education Resource Services (HERS) Institute, board treasurer for American University–Kurdistan, secretary/treasurer for the Subscribers' Advisory Board of United Educators, and member of the Appeals Board of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, where she previously served as a commissioner and finance committee member.

Dr. Burleigh-Jones holds a bachelor's degree in finance and an MBA from American University, as well as a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Texas at Austin. She is also a graduate of the Harvard Institute for Higher Education and the HERS Institute at Wellesley College.
