Mark Alnutt

Vice President, Director of Athletics, University at Buffalo, State University of New York

Mark Alnutt

Mark Alnutt was appointed Vice President and Director of Athletics at the University at Buffalo on March 21, 2018. Since his arrival, the Bulls have reached unprecedented heights in competition as well as in the classroom and, through successful fundraising efforts, many of UB's athletics facilities have been transformed.

Under Alnutt's watch, UB teams have won nine Mid-American Conference Championships. Between 2019 and 2020, the football and men's and women's basketball teams were all nationally ranked for the first time in program history.

Alnutt has always placed an emphasis on academics and UB student-athletes have responded by posting remarkable grade point averages. Every semester, since the Spring of 2019, UB teams have exceeded a 3.0 grade point average, by far the longest streak in department history.

Thanks to transformational gifts he helped secure, new facilities have been constructed across the Amherst campus that have enhanced the student-athlete experience. A new fieldhouse and sports performance center as well as significant upgrades to the softball field and academic areas are some of the highlights.

Most recently, Alnutt helped procure a multimillion-dollar partnership with Broadview Federal Credit Union for stadium and arena naming rights, student scholarships and student support – a first for the University.

Alnutt is known as a well-respected leader across the NCAA. He was named to the FBS Oversight Committee in 2019 and was appointed chair in 2024. In 2026, he was named the chair of the MAC Council of Directors of Athletics.
