Matt Tidd
Senior Vice President of Finance/CFO, Marshall University
Matt Tidd serves as Senior Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Marshall University, where he leads the university’s financial strategy and oversees key finance operations, including Budget, Accounting, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Bursar, Procurement, Shared Services, and Finance IT. In this role, he is responsible for the financial planning and administration of a university budget exceeding $350 million and leads a finance organization of more than 60 professionals. Since joining Marshall University, Matt has played a central role in strengthening the institution’s long-term financial position, including developing the university’s first three-year income statement and cash flow forecasts, implementing a long-range financial plan, and helping reverse the university’s structural deficit ahead of schedule. He also led the implementation of an incentivized budget model that modernized long-standing budgeting practices and advanced a culture of accountability and transparency. A recognized innovator in higher education finance, Matt has helped expand the use of data, analytics, and artificial intelligence in financial decision-making. His work includes developing Power BI into a campus-wide financial reporting tool and incorporating artificial intelligence into cash flow forecasting, an effort that has earned national recognition for innovation in higher education finance. Before joining Marshall University, Matt served as Chief University Budget Officer at West Virginia University, where he led transformative budget and planning initiatives, including the implementation of Syntellis’ Axiom Higher Education Budget and Planning Suite and the development of operating, capital, and long-range budget models. Earlier in his career, he held finance, planning, reporting, and audit leadership roles with Mylan, Inc., Marriott International, Inc., and Reznick Group, P.C. Matt holds a Master of Professional Accountancy and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting, graduating cum laude from West Virginia University. He is also a Certified Public Accountant. |
